Tawam Hospital pays to play

Al Ain’s Tawam Hospital has completed implementation of Philips’s iSite Picture Archiving and Communication system (PACS).

The healthcare institution is the first in the region to use a “fee per study” model in which the hospital pays a monthly cost for viewing, distributing and storing medical images, as opposed to buying equipment.

Under the new system, Philips will guarantee 99.99% uptime for its PACS service, computed radiography systems and client workstations. The system also integrates with Tawam’s existing Cerner system which provides a paperless workflow for patients and care providers. The system provides a three dimensional view of data in real time to the hospital, in addition to two additional remote sites via a Wide Area Network.

“Our hospital treats patients with a wide range of complex medical conditions. During diagnosis we capture many different types of medical images, creating a large amount of information that needs to be safely stored and easily accessible by our clinicians,” says Michael Heindel, CEO of Tawam Hospital. “The Philips iSite solution makes it easier for us to manage our imaging data, while providing access to images wherever and whenever we need it.”
