Egyptian mobile operator Mobinil is planning to increase the efficiency of its network after hiring US-based NetCracker Technology to manage its 3G radio access network.

NetCracker Technology, which specialises in helping operators integrate their legacy networks with more advanced networks, will deploy its operation support systems to manage Mobinil’s 3G network, allowing the operator to automate services and process customer orders faster.

Mobinil will use NetCracker’s resource inventory, discovery and reconciliation, and design and planning modules to improve its network operations and consolidate disparate inventory databases and spreadsheets.

Marwan Hayek, vice president for technology, Mobinil, said the development would help Mobinil take its operations to an “advanced level” consistent with its 3G network deployments. “We will now be able to deploy the innovative, high-quality, personalised services our customers demand with reduced cost and faster time-to-market,” he said.

Sanjay Mewada, vice president of strategy, NetCracker Technology, added that the deployment would help Mobinil to expand its next-generation mobile networks.

Mobinil is Egypt's leading mobile operator, with more than 20 million subscribers and a coverage area of more than 99% of Egypt’s populated areas. Mobinil offers 3G services including video call, broadband and WAP mobile Internet.
