TOURIST DESTINATION: Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Property developer Aldar has announced it is to commission seven hotels on its Yas Island tourist destination in time for the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix in November.

The hotels - four five-star properties, one four-star and two three-star - will boost the UAE capital's accommodation inventory by 2,298 rooms and its food and beverage stock by 30 outlets, including 20 individual restaurants.

The multi-million dollar investment was outlined by Aldar's chairman Ahmed Al Sayegh as he pledged the company's support for the Gourmet Abu Dhabi culinary event being held in the UAE capital next month.

"Abu Dhabi will have the most magnificent facilities in the Middle East in the coming years as we are planning some of the most spectacular facilities and restaurants which, coupled with the emirate's genuine love of dispensing hospitality, will provide us with a solid base for the world-class professionals at this event to help us build on," he said.

"Part of Abu Dhabi's offering should be, and will be, great food and, as in our culture food is offered with respect to our guests, not just as a source of sustenance, but in a spirit of friendship, this event will forge friendships out of mutual respect."

Aldar properties due on line this year include the five-star deluxe Yas Marina, Crowne Plaza, Rotana and Radisson SAS; the four-star Staybridge Suites and three-star Park Inn and Centro by Rotana.
