Dubai is planning to beef up its customs procedures with visits to other countries to study how their customs facilities operate, it was announced on Sunday.

The first visit for the three-man delegation from Dubai took place last week with a visit to the UK.

The trip was part of a joint cooperation scheme that will see the two countries exchanging expertise and learning about each others practices.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the sharing of customs information and planned to run joint training programmes and workshops for their officers in the future, according to a statement released by Dubai Customs.

The UAE delegation visited UK Customs main building in London, where they viewed the latest applicable processes, and Heathrow airport where they learnt about the latest equipment used in detection and examination of goods hidden inside the body.

Mechanisms for dealing with passengers from which prohibited items had been seized and referral procedures to prosecuting agencies were also discussed, the statement added.

More trips are planned to other countries worldwide, and Dubai Customs will be receiving representatives on return visits, the organisation said.
