du has gone live with its Music on Demand service that allows customers to stream and download tracks.
With more than 2,000 Arabic songs from Rotana artists currently available, du will soon increase their music library to include English and Hindi songs through partnerships with other content providers.
Each track costs AED 6 to purchase with du offering music downloads worth AED 18 for each new registration.
Similar to the Nokia Music Store that went live in November last year, customers can register for free and download songs to their mobile handsets or computers.
When asked to comment on the similarities in services, du pointed out that its songs will not have any DRM (Digital Rights Management) restrictions. It also offers a more simplified payment option that doesn’t involve credit cards or other third party payment methods.
“du’s Music on Demand service offers streaming audio and TV channels to watch Rotana Channels across a variety of handsets including Sony Ericsson, Nokia and more,” a company statement clarified to itp.net
du’s service includes live video and audio streaming of songs, celebrity gossip and other interactive features, with plans to introduce downloadable content such as ringtones and wallpapers to complement the music service in the future.

What a terrible and awkward site. They obviously haven't thought about usability at all. Considering you have the likes of amazon and iTunes out there, you would have thought they would put some effort into designing it properly.
