STC is giving subscribers the option of having their lost or stolen mobile phone disabled for free.

The new service was launched by Saudi Telecom in a concerted effort to discourage people from stealing mobile phones in the Kingdom.

It also gives customers the option of reversing the action, which would otherwise leave the handset inoperable, STC public relations office Ahmed Al Ajlan clarified to Arab News daily.

To avail of the service, subscribers will need to provide proof of ownership to STC along with the device’s unique 15 digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, which can be obtained by entering *#06#.

@IT Retailer: No it won't because what will happen is that simply the IMEI will be blacklisted by STC.
Does this method only disable the phone for use in Saudi?

Having disabled the phone in Saudi, can the same phone be used in a foreign country on that country's GSM network? or will it be disabled internationally?

Would anyone be able to clarify this?
