Dell unveils inkless portable printer

Dell announced the first offspring from its partnership with ZINK Imaging, the Dell Wasabi PZ310 Ink-free Ultra Mobile Printer.

The printer uses ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology from ZINK Imaging which allows the users to print without ink, on specific papers.

The ZINK Technology provides all of ZINK Imaging’s partners, including Dell, with an ink-free technology platform from which they can launch a new generation of consumer electronics devices that are embeddable, mobile, simple to use and easy to maintain.

Powering these ZINK-enabled products is the award-winning ZINK Paper. The patented ZINK Paper is an advanced composite material with embedded yellow, magenta, and cyan dye crystals. ZINK-enabled devices use heat to activate and colorize these crystals.

The Wasabi is a pocket-sized mobile printer that produces borderless full colour 2”x3” with one picture per 55 second printing speed.

The new printer allows printing from a range of devices including digital cameras, camera phones, netbooks and laptop computers through PictBridge, USB A connector or Bluetooth 2.0.

The Wasabi is also built for mobility, with dimensions of just 4.8" x 2.9" x 0.9" and weighing 225g.

The printer is available from www.dell.com/wasabi. It comes in black, pink or blue, costs $99 for the printer itself, $12 for 24 sheets of Dell Wasabi PZ310 Photo Paper or $20 for 48 sheets.
