Metra and HP revive printer partnership in KSA

Volume distributor Metra Computer has earned the right to begin selling HP printers in Saudi Arabia again, two years after a contract covering the same set of hardware products was cancelled.

It is understood that challenges Metra faced over the complexity of HP’s rebate programmes and the distributor’s own internal management issues at the time led the company to stop selling printers in KSA towards the end of 2006.

However, circumstances have changed since then, prompting the pair to revisit the partnership and explore ways of increasing HP’s coverage in the Saudi market. The tie-up means Metra is now permitted to offer the full range of IPG kit in Saudi as the Egypt-based outfit already ranks as one of HP’s largest suppliers of ink cartridges and toners.

Mohamed Eissa, VP at Metra, confirmed the news and said Metra would begin placing orders with HP from this quarter onwards. “This is a restart of the operation we had two years ago so it is not new business for us,” he explained. “We have big plans to grow with HP and this now gives us the printer hardware to go with the supplies business. We are the only distributor who has all the countries for the HP supplies business in the Middle East.”

HP also distributes IPG equipment through AIM and Redington in Saudi Arabia.
