Edutech deploys e-learning network for Oman colleges

Edutech has rolled out an e-learning solution for the Oman Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) that will benefit over 10,000 students in the Sultanate.

The solution links six colleges across Oman, and will be used to deliver content and courses to students in Sur, Ibra, Sohar, Rustaq, Nizwa and Salalah, as well as providing a centralized platform and repository for e-learning for the ministry.

The project is based on two solutions from US-based Blackboard Inc. the Blackboard Learning System, which allows colleges to post courses and information online, and the Blackboard Community System, that enables the creation of online communities for students and faculty.

Mohammed Al Maamry, Assistant DG, Oman Ministry of Higher Education said: “The Oman Ministry of Higher Education is committed to introducing innovative education techniques to create a whole new learning experience for students. We have selected Edutech to implement the new system for their extensive experience in the industry coupled with the impressive high technology learning tools, which best suited our requirements.

“As Oman progresses towards adopting eLearning in all our major educational endeavours, our partnership with Edutech will aid us in helping students acclimatise to the fast-changing technologies of the world. We believe that we have taken the first step towards our goal, and we are looking forward to bringing in more colleges under the wings of this technology,” he added.

Alongside implementation, Edutech’s Professional Service Group (PSG) provided training and consultancy for the project, including pre-implementation workshops with stakeholders to design the scope of the project, and training for 100 faculty to drive uptake of the solution.
