Macalla, a mobile payment specialist based in Ireland, has won a deal to provide a range of mobile payment systems to Viva, the Kuwaiti arm of Saudi Arabia’s incumbent operator, STC.
Macalla, which is working with its partner International Turnkey Systems on the deployment, will provide applications including its Macalla Platform system and a payments engine.
The contract, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress, includes software and expertise to power Viva’s e-payments and M-commerce services. These services are provided by Viva in English and Arabic, directly to its subscribers, and also via a Viva dealer network.
Macalla Platform allows operators to offer their subscribers services including direct top-up, bill payments, money transfers, mobile banking and international remittances.
“STC is a very ambitious company,” said Niall O’Cleirigh, CEO, Macalla. “Viva has become operational in Kuwait just 10 months from winning its licence, and together with the Macalla Platform and its applications, launched at the beginning of December.”
