Single expatriate males renting apartments in family residencies in Kuwait are to have their power cut off in a bid to force them out of their accommodation, it was reported on Saturday.
The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) decided to introduce the new policy at a meeting held last week following complaints from families about the rowdy behaviour of neighbouring bachelors, according to a report in Kuwait daily Kuwait Times.
Penalties will also be imposed on the owners of buildings where bachelors rent apartments, said a report drawn up by MEW.
The policy will be put into practice first in Rumaithiya, Salmiya and Jabriya before it is rolled out nationally.
Meanwhile, MEW has said it is planning to invest KD1bn on a number of new projects to increase its electrical capacity to meet the growing demand for power.
A MEW official said the ministry was committed to carrying out the work before 2012 as part of a previous five-year plan.
The total cost of upgrading the current electricity system in existing and planned residential areas and new will cost KD548m in total.
