Qatar Airways is increasing its services across the Middle East by adding more flights to Saudi Arabia, it announced on Sunday.
The Doha airline has introduced five further flights to Dammam, extending the route to 12 weekly services.
Its Riyadh route has gone from three weekly flights to five, while two additional services between Doha and Jeddah have also been launched taking it from five to seven per week.
All new services, operated on Airbus A320s, A321s and A319s in two-class configurations, commenced on Feb.22.
The airline claims the new services will prove popular with business and leisure travellers. Qatar Airways’ chief executive Akbar Al Baker also believes additional flights to Saudi Arabia will benefit the airline’s Houston service, which launches on Mar. 30.
“Houston is a very strategic route for Qatar Airways, as it opens up increased bilateral business opportunities for the energy sectors across the Middle East and the oil-producing southern states of America,” he said.
“Saudi Arabia’s rich financial and energy base gives Qatar Airways further reason to launch the route and establish this key international air corridor.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, known worldwide as an energy superpower, is the world’s leading petroleum exporter with oil accounting for over 90 percent of the country’s exports.
“Furthermore, there exist very close ties between the Arab business community and energy companies in the Gulf with those in and around the Houston area. More than 65,000 Arabs currently live in and around Houston.”
The daily route between Doha and Houston will be operated using Boeing 777-200LRs with room for 259.
