Qatar Airways announces fuel surcharge reduction

COST REDUCTION: Qatar Airways has cut its fuel surcharge on international flights.

Qatar Airways has announced that it has reduced the fuel surcharge cost to passengers on its international flights.

The reduction applies to short and long-haul services in the airline’s global network and follows an earlier reduction introduced by the carrier in December on tickets for one-way and return flights from Doha.

“In response to the recent reduction in oil and jet fuel prices, we are now pleased to lower the fuel surcharge substantially in our network, which demonstrates our commitment to the travelling public by offering highly competitive prices,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker in comments published by The Peninsula on Thursday.

His comments come a day after he announced that the global economic slowdown would not halt the airline's plans for expansion in 2009.

Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 67 Boeing and Airbus aircraft serving 83 key business and leisure cities across Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Far East and North America.
