ArabCrunch hosts regional startups and VCs

ArabCrunch Demo 09, an event dedicated to Arabic startups attracted 300 participants in Jordan last week.

The event aimed to bring together startups and experts from companies and other interested organizations to promote startup ventures from the Arab world.

ArabCrunch was hosted by Arab startup blog ArabCrunch and DART, the student entrepreneurship society at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), part of the of Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE).

Startups from Egypt and Jordan showcased solutions at the event, including embedded Arabic search, new websites, a location based framework for mobile applications, an open source mobile advertising server and an auto-responder and mailing list manager for website newsletters.

Gaith Saqer editor and founder of ArabCrunch said that the event provided a free platform to promote startups, giving much need exposure to companies from the Arab world: “ArabCrunch Demo is a step forward to help create a regional ecosystem that supports technology entrepreneurs in the Arab world.”

The event also included keynote speeches from venture capital companies and industry experts from areas such as marketing and IT.

Herve Cuviliez, managing director of KuvCapital, a seed funding Venture Capital entity said a keynote address: “We need to create a friendly environment in the Middle East to create successful startups, from universities to governments through VC and to spread entrepreneurship culture. All these parts are required in order to benefit from each other's participation via symbiotic relationships to create a friendly ecosystem.”
