MARINA PLAN: Phase one of Dubai Maritime City's marina has been completed, official said on Monday.

The first phase of the project to build a 1,000-berth marina in Dubai Maritime City has been completed, officials announced on Monday.

Dubai Maritime City, part of the Dubai World Group of companies, announced that phase one of its marina comprising 44 berths was now finished.

A total of 1,000 berths are set to be featured, adding a significant number to the much-needed space required for leisure boats and crafts that are expected to enter the market over the next few years.

Officials within DMC estimate that up to 50,000 new boats poised to be berthed at Dubai in the next five years.

The initial 44 berths will be used by Dubai Maritime City to test the impact of water movement around the City and the stability of boats within its marina.

It will also house a number of vessels owned and operated by Dubai Maritime City Authority, which is responsible for the regulation of the maritime industry within the Emirate of Dubai.

"This is one of the key achievements in the project's development, as upon completion a large number of vessels will be docked within Dubai Maritime City and we need to ensure that they can withstand the water movement and are stable within their positions," said Ali Al Daboos, chief operating officer of Dubai Maritime City.

On completion, Dubai Maritime City will feature six precincts: Harbour Offices, Harbour Residences, Maritime Centre, Marina District, Industrial Precinct and Dubai Maritime City Campus.
