Ex-3Com boss takes reins at McAfee

McAfee has hired ex-3Com boss Hamed Diab to head its Middle East business.

Based at McAfee’s headquarters in Dubai Internet City, Diab will hold responsibility for steering the company’s Middle East business strategy and expanding its presence in the region in his new position as regional director for the Middle East.

Diab brings strong experience in the region’s networking market from his time at 3Com, a background McAfee hopes will strengthen its grip on the security market. This is an agenda that has been boosted by the firm’s recent purchase of internet security appliances producer Secureway Computing.

“The Middle East presents a great opportunity for McAfee to demonstrate its wide range of complete security offerings to key markets across the region,” commented Diab. “This is something that will be facilitated by our strong regional partner network and on-the-ground support, enabling McAfee to work with organisations in the Middle East on a proactive basis to help them meet their security challenges head on.”

Meanwhile the vendor has further fortified its senior personnel in the Middle East with the naming of Jan van Vliet as VP for emerging markets and Daan Hakkert as regional director of channels for emerging markets. Vliet’s work will cover the Middle East market in addition to other global emerging arenas and Hakkert will be kept busy recruiting partners across the region with the aim of netting alliances in key growth markets for the vendor such as Qatar and Oman.

David Quantrell, EMEA president at McAfee, is resolute that the Middle East is a geography worthy of the vendor’s increased attention and the future channel development efforts of the new Middle East boss. “McAfee has witnessed growing demand across the region, most notably in the area of data protection, driven by the growing awareness of the need for encryption,” said Quantrell.
