GROWING DEMAND: Flying between Saudi and Abu Dhabi is becoming more popular, according to Nasair.

Saudi budget carrier Nasair will launch daily flights from the Kingdom to Abu Dhabi this April, the airline announced on Wednesday.

The budget carrier said it was increasing from three weekly flights in response to rising demand from business and leisure passengers.

The daily service will also prove popular with religious traffic during the Hajj, according to the airline.

Hub operator Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said more passengers were already flying between Saudi Arabia and the UAE capital.

“Abu Dhabi city is becoming an inducement for airlines looking at high-yield and high-load factor sectors,” said Mohammed Al Bulooki, ADAC’s vice president of airline marketing and aeronautical revenue.

“Regional growth within the aviation sector is increasing and we anticipate the traffic flow between Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and other Saudi Arabian cities such as Riyadh to continue growing,” he added.

According to ADAC, 41 airlines operate flights to Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The airport is undergoing a $6bn redevelopment involving a new midfield terminal, which is scheduled for completion in 2012.

The terminal is expected to increase the hub’s annual capacity to 40 million from 20 million passengers.

Last year, the hub handled more than nine million passengers – up 30 percent from 2006.
