Al Zorah development in Ajman.

UAE's Al Zorah Development has signed a deal with document management specialist Aconex to provide it with an online collaboration system for the first phase of its Al Zorah master planned city.

The US$1.6 billion development in the emirate of Ajman will use Aconex systems to manage the volume of data produced and link the various organisations involved.

Aconex's web-based platform allows large projects such as Al-Zorah to co-ordinate the teams involved and manage the documents and correspondence produced. The real-time nature of the system allows groups working in different geographic locations to work concurrently.

Imad Dana, CEO of Al Zorah Development Company, said: "Undertaking a project of this magnitude involves many stages of development that need to be closely managed and controlled. The infrastructure phase of the project will involve organisations from the Middle East and overseas, that will need instant, round-the-clock access to their data. Aconex will make it easy for any team member, anywhere, to retrieve the information they require.

Peter Hedlund, Aconex's general manager for the Middle East, added: "On the infrastructure phase alone, hundreds of organisations will create and exchange millions of documents and correspondence items. With companies constantly joining and leaving the project, there needs to be a high level of transparency and continuity of information.

The Al Zorah development is scheduled to take place over a 16-year period, involving more than 12 million square metres of coastal and reclaimed land. The project is predicted to cost in excess of $60 billion to complete.
