THAI FLIGHTS: Kuwait City airport will receive flights directly from Bangkok.

The first ever air route between Thailand and Kuwait will be launched later this month, it was reported on Wednesday.

Thai Airways will begin direct flights from Bangkok to Kuwait City on March 29 ending six years of a Kuwait-Dubai-Bangkok operation.

Launching the new route Jucksawat Kitisook, general manager for Thai Airways in Kuwait said: "The first direct flight, which is seven and a half hours from Kuwait to Bangkok will start by the end of this month.

"The Kuwait-Dubai-Bangkok flight will be canceled when this flight commences. But Our service from Dubai will continue.”

Despite the worldwide economic slowdown the Kuwait-Bangkok flight would thrive, added said Anwar Al Fadhel, general manager sales agent for Kuwait.

"The economic crisis will not last for long, the situation may change by next year, air traffic will resume normalcy again and it's good that the Thai Airways is ever ready to handle expected traffic growth," he said.

Thai Airways will fly the new route five times a week, up from the former three times per week via the Dubai route.

The airline's new fleet Airbus 340-600 will be deployed on the new route.

According to Al-Fadhel, the launch of a new route reflects the strong relations shared between the two countries and their unwavering cooperation.

The airline had plans to expand further operations in the region, he added.
