The Ras Al Khaimah Media City may create a $27m (AED100m) media studies college as part of its new two million square feet campus, said its chief executive, according to daily Emirates Business.
Junaid Shaikh, CEO of RAK Media City said that the project is being executed in collaboration with an overseas partner. He, however declined to reveal any further details.
"It has taken time and we preferred no publicity in the early stages of negotiations; but now we have agreed on 70 per cent of all issues with the parties involved and it looks very positive. Once finalised, the new college will roughly be a AED100m-plus investment," Shaikh said, according to the business daily.
RAK Media Investment has invested in the endeavour that will be administered and managed by a faculty of experts in media, films and television from across the world.
"The college aims to position RAK Media City as an attractive destination for film and TV professionals who want to base their activities in the region, especially out of the UAE, and offer courses in film and TV production and direction, Shaikh said.
"We have completed the design study and the college is expected to cover 500,000 sqft, or 25 percent of RAK Media City's area of two million square feet. The college will be on a different plot from the one currently used for the construction of 24 projects in announced previously," said Shaikh.
