Gulf Business Machines (GBM) is preparing to take to the road and tell customers how they can slash the cost of their data centres by deploying virtualisation solutions.

The integrator is teaming up with distributor Magirus, and vendor partners IBM and VMmware, to outline how virtualisation software can lower costs and increase storage power for clients looking to get the most out of their systems.

GBM aims to convince customers that they can simplify their data centres by using VMware’s virtualisation system on IBMx86 servers. Executives from IBM are also expected to detail the company’s Dynamic Infrastructure initiative — its perspective on how organisations can create streamlined and self-managing infrastructures.

GBM will conduct the roadshow in five cities, kicking off in Abu Dhabi tomorrow and repeated in Oman a day later. The event will then be hosted in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain towards the end of March.

GBM’s Oman operation, meanwhile, has confirmed plans to organise an application optimisation and data centre virtualisation seminar with Cisco. The one-day event, scheduled for the 24th March, is designed to show customers how they can maintain application efficiency and integrity while extending bandwidth capabilities across the enterprise.

“Many companies have found that the return on investment from extensive new application infrastructure deployments is lower than expected due to slow performance across the infrastructure,” said Samer Nader, INSS manager at GBM. “In addition, companies are looking to centralise their key application and data assets in a new class of data centre. This creates challenges both at remote locations in terms of application delivery and at the data centre in terms of cost consolidation.”
