New distributor underlines Oki’s interest in Egypt

Printing and consumables vendor Oki has confirmed it has shored up its presence in the Egyptian IT sector with the appointment of Smart Technology as its official distributor in the North African nation.

The vendor is traditionally known for working with a sole distribution partner in each market, which takes responsible for developing Oki’s share of the business in that territory. Having been present in the Egyptian market through the distribution channel for more than three years Oki reveals that it began initiating a relationship with Smart Technology during the Middle of last year.

John Ross, general manager at Oki Middle East, India and North East Africa, reckons that Smart Technology can offer the vendor the sort of prospects and market development that previous distribution partners in the country were unable to produce.

“I don’t think they [Smart Tech] have much to learn to be honest, it is a different mind-set, that is the difference,” explained Ross. “They are more focused on developing the business in the markets that we want to take it into.”

The vendor recently held an open day event to formally introduce the partnership into the market and explain why it regards Egypt as an important market. At the event held in Cairo, Oki and Smart Technology met with representatives from the government and private sector to discuss the IT market in the country and opportunities it provides.

“We believe Egypt is a key market that provides good investment opportunities for international companies that are looking to expand their operations,” explained Ross to the audience at the event.

“Appointing Smart Technology is part of our strategy to reinforce our ongoing commitment towards the Egyptian market. Having a partner like Smart Technology with their relationships and excellent track record in the market will help us serve our customers in Egypt and provide them with efficient and cost effective printing solutions,” added Ross.

Smart Technology’s general manager Ihab Anis feels Oki’s printing solutions range answer a need that has yet to be fulfilled in the Egyptian corporate market.

“Oki is a leader in the colour printing market and we see great opportunity for it to grow in Egypt especially with the ongoing development of the IT sector,” commented Anis.

“Oki’s Open Day in Cairo provided us with the opportunity to establish a direct dialogue with top executives from the government and private sector. We are planning to have a road show all over Egypt to showcase OKI’s solutions and printers, as well as training sessions with Oki for our resellers to update them with the latest technology and enable them to provide the best services to their customers,” concluded Anis.
