Swedish truck and bus manufacturing giant Scania will open a new assembly plant in Dubai later this month, it was announced on Wednesday.
The new facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) will make Scania the first automotive assembler in the UAE and will supply completed vehicles to the whole GCC region.
It will have the capacity for to build about 1,400 vehicles per year and operations will initially include vehicles for construction haulage, such as tipper and concrete trucks, but the facility will also be adapted for bus chassis assembly in the future.
“Dubai and Jafza in particular, is well placed with the region’s largest container port offering all forms of logistical support to companies looking for easy access to Middle East, West Asia, the CIS and African markets. These facilities will fully support Scania’s growth aspirations in the region,” said Salma Hareb, CEO of Economic Zones World.
The Scania assembly plant is the Swedish auto giant’s first such facility in the region.
Scania is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines.
