Thirty factories are expected to be operating in Dubai Industrial City by the end of 2009, project chiefs said on Wednesday.
The target was announced as bosses of the dedicated industrial destination said grading work of its 167 million square feet Phase 2 development has been completed ahead of schedule.
Rashed Al Ansari, vice president of Dubai Industrial City, said: “In keeping with our firm commitment to create a vibrant industrial destination, we have initiated appropriate measures to ensure investors gain possession of their designated plots and begin construction work as soon as possible.
“Work on the remaining segments of our project will also proceed as planned, as we streamline our efforts towards establishing a holistic manufacturing destination with the most modern facilities."
Ansari added: “We expect to have 30 factories operating in Dubai Industrial City by end of 2009, some of them located in the second phase of the project. Our investors have production deadlines and commitment to their own suppliers and consequently we are keen to enable them to commence work on their factories.
"By meeting their expectation we have validated our sincere endeavour to shape an optimum enabling environment at the industrial township.”
Dubai Industrial City is the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai and is spread across 560 million square feet of land.
The project comprises six industrial clusters featuring food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment.
The city is expected to accommodate around 500,000 people when it is completed by 2015.
