The UAE now tops the lists for US exports in the Middle East and North African, the US ambassador to the country has announced.
Since 2000, US exports to the UAE have grown from to $2.2 billion to the 2008 figure of $15.7 billion, Richard Olson said.
"Defence, machinery, autos and even horses make up a large part of this trade, but this does not fully account for services such as legal and consulting," he said in comments published by UAE daily Gulf News on Thursday.
The UAE has surpassed Washington's strategic ally Israel and Saudi Arabia in the list of US exports.
Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the American Business Council of Dubai and Northern Emirates, Olson hailed the "strong" relations between the two countries in the fields of education, culture as well as politics.
Olson expressed confidence in the ability of the UAE and other Arab Gulf states to recover "quickly" from the current international financial crisis.
Olson added: "Times are significantly challenging, but the GCC countries are best positioned to recover from the credit crunch and the UAE will be at the forefront leading that recovery."
