The president of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the CEO Saudi Arabia Awards ceremony on Sunday night.

Saud bin Majed Al-Daweesh, who has more than 23 years of experience in the areas of telecommunications and management, was previously president of Al-Jawal, the mobile business unit of STC which he headed from Oct. 2001.

While there, he implemented a new Al-Jawal organisational structure and played an active role in introducing all core and value-added services for mobile customers including prepaid services.

Under his leadership, the Al-Jawal customer base grew to 12 million lines generating a revenue in excess of SR23bn.

In mid-2007, Daweesh initiated a strategic partnership with the principal shareholder of Maxis Communications in Malaysia and the Natrindo Telephone Seluler (NTS) in Indonesia. This initiative yielded positive results for STC.

More recently, through the efforts of Daweesh, STC won the third mobile phone licence in Kuwait, as part of an expansion drive outside of its home boundaries.

The company now operates in Kuwait, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and South Africa.

Daweesh is also the chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Natrindo Telepon Seluler (Mobile) in Indonesia.

He also sits on the Board for Maxis Communications (Malaysia), SAMENA (South Asia, Middle East and North Africa) Telecommunications Council, and the Saudi Arabia's Stock Exchange.
