The open-air Andrea Bocelli and Coldplay concerts will go ahead this weekend despite weather concerns following recent downpours in the UAE, the event organisers said on Thursday.

Flash and co-organiser Live Nation urged fans attending either concert at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi to bring warm and waterproof clothing. Umbrellas will not be allowed in the venue for safety reasons.

“The safety of concert goers, on-site staff and volunteers as well as the musicians themselves remains our top priority, but at this stage both concerts are all systems go and rain will not hamper the fun,” said Flash managing director John Lickrish.

Andrea Bocelli is performing live on Friday, while Coldplay will make their first UAE appearance the following evening.

Flash moved to quell fans’ concerns after receiving several enquiries about the concerts.

Lickrish said: “The rain always comes when you least expect it to, but we are happy to say that the show must go on - rain showers or sunshine, so the acts and the fans may well be singing in the rain this weekend.”
