TRAGEDY STRIKES: At Dubai Industrial City.

Three labourers were killed and others injured after the wall of a warehouse under construction at Dubai Industrial City collapsed during strong winds.

The single-storey glass and aluminium factory, owned by an unnamed investor based at the site, fell down at 6.55am on Thursday, it has been reported.

The building was under construction and was 50% complete, a spokesman for Dubai International City said.

Dubai Police and Civil Defence and emergency medical teams attended the scene and transferred those with serious injuries to hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known, the spokesman added.

A number of other people sustained minor injuries and were treated on site.

“The management of Dubai Industrial City extends its condolences and sympathies to the families of those who died,” he said.

An investigation into the incident will now be conducted by the authorities with the support of the DI management.

Thirty factories are expected to be operating in Dubai Industrial City by the end of 2009, project chiefs said last week.

The target was announced as bosses of the dedicated industrial destination said grading work of its 167 million square feet Phase 2 development had been completed ahead of schedule.

Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer, is the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai and is spread across 560 million square feet of land.

The project comprises six industrial clusters featuring food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment.

The city is expected to accommodate around 500,000 people when it is completed by 2015.

Govt and companies should give importance on HSE issues.

life is a precious, I think most of the construction workers are not
given proper training, or utilities. This is a very bad news. my prayers are to the families those who killed. The responsitble person
should compensate atleast in this way as they cannot bring the lifes
back. the government should act immeidatly not to use inferior
materials.
