UAE MOVE: Lufthansa plans to expand its services to the UAE by 110 percent this summer.

Lufthansa Airline is planning to increase capacity on routes between Germany and the UAE by 110 percent this summer.

Germany’s flag carrier said it would also boost the number of flights to the Gulf and Middle East by 40 percent, bucking the general industry downturn.

This summer, Lufthansa will fly daily from Muscat, Jeddah, Riyadh and Beirut to Frankfurt. It will also increase capacity for Iran and the Dubai-Munich route by deploying bigger aircraft.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa will operate four weekly flights to Sana’a and Damman, adding three additional flights on its Lufthansa Business Jet service in June and July.

The capacity expansion follows various Middle East and Gulf route launches during the past four years.

“We have done a lot to expand our reach,“ said Thierry Antinori, Lufthansa’s executive vice president of sales and marketing.

“Now it is the time to optimise our route network as part of our strategy to further enhance our strong market presence.”

“Despite the current economic situation, the region provides a stable and positive economic climate with many multinational companies and governmental institutions present,” a Lufthansa statement added.

The airline operates 96 flights to 14 destinations across 11 Middle East and Gulf countries.

Lufthansa should really start considering offering better entertainment and food on board. How can they expect to compete with Qatar, Emirates and Etihad airways!! The entertainment on baord suck so why should I pay to fly wit them when an airline like emirates keeps you entertained with individual TV's on long haul flights and looks after you so well.

how can Lufthansa, hope to gain more market share in the GCC & MiddleEast region, whwn it s not bothered to improve its customer service, esp food in flight, all food being non-halal, containg pork in some form or other. I was travelling in Sept.(Ramadan) month and even after giving prefernce in advance at time of booking, the inflght staf served me food with pork, and on requesting, was informed that they do not cater halal food, on board.
