Kuwait halts studies at private universities in India

The Kuwait government has temporarily banned students from studying for degrees at private universities in India due to quality concerns, it was reported on Saturday.
 
Nouriya Al Sabeeh, the Minister of Education, issued the directive but no further details were given, such as what the situation is for Kuwaiti students already at university in the country.

A ministry official said that a special delegation would be traveling to India and the Philippines shortly to evaluate the standard of the universities there, reported Arabic daily Al Qabas.

The move follows an earlier decision by the ministry to stop recognising and accepting graduates from private universities in the Philippines.

It also plans to do the same for those who have graduated from private universities in East Europe, because the ministry says they do not meet the criteria set out by the ministry.

The number of students who have studied at the now banned universities will be assessed by a special committee, the ministry said, reported Arabic daily Al Watan.
