Etihad Airways has launched its third Australian route after introducing daily flights to Melbourne on Wednesday.
The Abu Dhabi carrier has deployed 286-seater Airbus A340-600s on the 14-hour service to Tullamarine airport. Each plane has 12 and 30 first and business class seats respectively, and 244 in economy.
Flights depart Abu Dhabi at 9.40am (UAE time), arriving in Melbourne at 7.15pm (Australia time) the following day. The return leg leaves the Australian city at 11pm and touches down in the UAE capital at 6.20am the next morning.
“As a Melbournian, I am personally proud of the investment Etihad has made in the Melbourne community,” said CEO James Hogan.
“During the last few weeks, we have seen the city’s 50,000-seater Etihad Stadium host several major sporting events and the Etihad-sponsored Ferrari F1 team competing at the Australian Grand Prix in the city.
“We have developed significantly, and in only two years, extended our operations in Australia, launching new routes and significantly increasing our share in this growing market. Our Sydney and Brisbane flights have been incredibly popular, and Australia is a key travel destination for tourism and business alike.”
The Melbourne service extends Etihad’s route network to 51 destinations. It also operates 11 and three weekly flights to Sydney and Brisbane respectively.
