Indian carrier Jet Airways is launching daily direct flights between Chennai and Dubai this month, the airline announced on Sunday.

The service, which starts on April 23, will be carried out using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Flights will depart Dubai at 4.30pm and arrive in Chennai at 10.15pm.

The return journey leaves at 12.45pm and lands in Dubai at 15.30pm.

A special price for economy return will be available on the opening three days from April 23.

Flights with return dates on or before May 31 will cost AED860 ($234), inclusive of taxes, while the price for premiere tickets will be AED1,360 ($370).

“Jet Airways has already established itself as a formidable brand in the intensely competitive Gulf-India sector in a relatively short period of time, on account of the warmth of its service and quality of its in-flight product,” said Abraham Joseph, Jet Airways’ senior general manager.

“We are confident that the new Dubai-Chennai service will prove similarly popular with passengers. Our focus remains on strategic growth that meets travellers' needs by offering the best schedules, more choice of destinations for their convenience,” he added.

Private airlines neglecting KSA
Posted by Tyronne, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Monday 6 April 2009 at 12:45 UAE time

Demographics indicate a population of over 1.5 million Indians in Saudi Arabia while it is just over a million in the UAE. In the last 5-6 years, we have seen a sizeable increase in the number of white collar and middle management staff from India in Saudi Arabia. This segment of the Indian population are reasonably well paid, have families living with them in KSA and are upwardly mobile. However, private Indian carriers like Jet Airways do not seem to want to tap this huge potential while Indians in the neighboring countries benefit from a surfeit of flights to India. Makes one wonder if the situation is created by Air India to hog the revenue while providing low quality and poor performance.
