JOBS CALL: The UAE's Labour Minister says Arab nations must unite to tackle the impact of job losses.

Exceptional and urgent measures are needed in the Arab world to tackle the issue of job losses amid the current economic crisis, a top UAE Minister has said.

Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, the Minister of Labour, said Arab nations should unite in an effort to find jobs for people who have been impacted by the global downturn.

His comments came on Monday as he addressed the yArab Labour Conference in Jordan, news agency WAM reported.

Ghobash was quoted as saying the UAE was keen to retain a skilled Arab workforce and encourage the private sector to prosper.

He stressed the need for preparing the Arab workforce through implementing proper educational policies and training schemes.

“Partnership with private sector and co-operation with the regional and international organisations, notably the ILO [International Labour Organisation] and the Arab Labour Organisation for Development of Creative Solutions” were needed, he added.

Ghobash called on leaders to deal with the impact of the financial crisis on labour markets by “taking exceptional and urgent measures to protect the private sector and to cut job losses”.

The Minister also warned that rising unemployment within the Arab world would further strain regional economies, adding that the UAE had taken a series of measures to keep the labour market stable.

The government should inform the private sectors not to remove the
staff , but they should be given an option to take less salary. This will
100 percent will work out. atleast working people stay here and the
business will come to normal after sometime instead of fleeing.
I strongly feel this message will go to the concerned govt officially.
Ungratefulness

It is a fact that people from the Indian subcontinent and Indians in particular have imparted to Dubai, UAE and the GCC Countries in general the professional culture, work experience of getting things done and they have delivered and to an extent exceeded the vision of the custodians of these economies.
However, when the labor minister states to retain an Arab work force in this time of financial crisis and forget the same Indian work force which worked wonders for it in its time of need smacks of downright ungratefulness.
In maintaining such prejudices, the economies only stand to lose heavily.

I think if we try to restore the confidence of businesses and banks, business will continue as usual, take the example of Lebanon and Syria; while the property market is not growing as much as it should grow, the banking system is healthy and its business as usual, there is even a positive growth in those 2 countries, so all we need to do is to restore the confidence by allowing banks to lend again
