Qatar Airways’ economy class has been named the world’s best in a global passenger survey.
The Doha-based carrier also secured the best airline in the Middle East accolade for the fourth consecutive year at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Meanwhile, Qatar Airways’ cabin crew picked up the best in the region award for the seventh year in a row.
A global poll involving 16 million travellers was carried out last year, quizzing passengers on in-flight experience and customer service.
Following the awards, Qatar Airways has climbed to fourth best carrier in the world. It is the only carrier in the Middle East to have secured ‘five-star airline’ status from Skytrax.
“Most airlines invest heavily in developing their premium cabins and, while we continue to do this, Qatar Airways strives to innovate in economy class ensuring our high standards are maintained and passenger expectations are exceeded worldwide,” said Qatar Airways’ chief executive Akbar Al Baker.
Edward Plaistad said the airline performed strongly in 2008 to secure the awards ahead of other establish Middle East carriers, such as Emirates and Etihad Airways.
The airline operates 68 Airbus and Boeing aircraft across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, South Africa, Far East and North America.

I was compensated for BD7/- for a downgrade from first class to economy during flights from Doha to Bahrain at the last minute. All communications to the higher authority have been blocked and inaccessible. They need to work harder and feel the ground to really become the best. At the moment, a little bit short.

Dear John
Thanks for your comments. I have travelled by Qatar, Oman, Gulf, Air Arabia, Malaysian, Thai, Air India, Lufthansa etc. to name a few. Out of all, I find Emirates still is the BEST in all respects. If its grown big at a too short time does not mean that their services became worse. It shows why people prefer EK to other airlines and the reason why it grew so fast so well.........

Best airline??!! - just hope they don't lose your bags.
They did mine from Doha to Dubai - how is that possible?
6 weeks later I've been offered "the standard IATA rate" of 20 dollars per kilo.
So 200 dollars - that hardly covers the cost of the bag, never mind the emergency stuff we had to buy, the inconvenience, taxi fares to look for the bag at the airport - oh and the valuables inside.
They say they need the receipts of all items lost - and who does that?
So Qatar Airways screw up our holiday - then insult us with 200 dollars.
A 5 star airline? Best airline in the world?

To Shanti - I strongly advise you to try a couple different "real" airlines, such as Cathay, Singapore, Etihad and then you will see the difference..., 4 years ago I would have said the same exact thing about Emirates, but they got too big too fast and extremly arrogant... and the customer was left behind in the process... right now Emirates is nothing more then a brand - nothing more... the aitrcraft are nasty, seats are continuously broken, something laways malfunctions, service leaves a lot to be desired and catering is awful - and I am talking Business and First..(how sad is that?)My company used to log about 1.6 million miles with Emirates every year, last year 140,000 miles with the same amount of travel... does that tell you something?. Have a taste of the real airlines and I am sure you will change your commnet....
