NEW CRACKDOWN: Bahrain's Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has announced the new crackdown on corruption.

Tougher laws to combat corruption and bribery in Bahrain could soon be implemented, it emerged on Friday.

The Gulf state's penal law would be amended to include an article dealing with bribery and embezzlement in the private sector, Crown Prince and Economic Development Board (EDB) chairman Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa said.

"The aim would be to protect shareholders' money and inalienable rights," he said in comments published by Gulf Daily News.
