The holiday division of Etihad Airways announced on Monday several cut-rate packages to global destinations, amid a general slowdown in travel in the region.

A total of 17 destinations in the World Deals brochure have been included in the latest discount deals, with as much as 40 percent off the newest routes, including Cyprus - which will start receiving Etihad travellers from mid-June.

The offers were announced just days after travel experts in the region revealed in local media that advanced bookings for airline tickets had dropped 50 percent year on year.

Several carriers had cut prices for economy travel to boost load factors, industry insiders said.

Etihad's package deal to Cyprus includes reductions on flights and accommodation, and starts at $415 for three-nights at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel.

Additional nights cost an extra $61 each, while a three-night stay at five-star hotel Elysium, near the Tomb of the Kings archaeological site, costs $529.

The Cyprus offer is valid on bookings made from June 14.

Discounts have also been made on holidays in Paris, Geneva, Bangkok, Sydney and Melbourne.

Three nights at the Imperial Queens Park Hotel in Bangkok are available at $528, with holidays to Malyasia starting from $637.

Despite the general downturn in passenger demand, Etihad Airways has also announced it is launching flights to Istanbul on June 1 and Athens the following day.

Both will be included in Etihad Holiday’s cut-price promotion later this year.

Costs for a three-night stay at the four-star Nippon Hotel in Istanbul will start from $598. A stay at the W Hotel is $868 for the same period.

For Athens, Etihad Holidays is charging $786 for three nights at the Anthanaeum InterContinental hotel.

The airline will launch a third new route this summer to Larnaca on June 14.

Etihad said fares per person cover return economy flights from Abu Dhabi, but airline taxes and fuel surcharges are not included in the offers.
