Qatari youth looking for jobs continue to prefer the government and semi-government sectors due to convenient timings, attractive pay packages and prestige, according to Qatar's English daily, The Peninsula.

The Ministry of Business and Trade, the Authority for Minors' Affairs, Al Jazeera satellite channel and state-backed real estate giant Qatari Diar top the list of the nationals' preferred employers, the newspaper says.

At the career fair that concluded in Doha on Thursday, the above four exhibitors received the maximum number of applications for placement from fresh graduates and unemployed citizens.

The Authority for Minors' Affairs bagged the second spot in job attractiveness since its annual budget outlays are huge, it has more openings for citizens and is known for its enviable financial management skills, the daily said.

The newspaper notes that citizens continue to attach social prestige to jobs with the Ministry of Business and Trade since working for it promises closer interaction with the business elite. Besides this, what's enticing the youth are the lucrative remuneration, opportunities to travel overseas and working in a single shift, among many other thing.

The Authority for Minors' Affairs received 1,000 applications from job hunters, while the electronic media firm Al Jazeera, and Qatari Diar, received 700 job requests each.

The national carrier Qatar Airways was not among the top 10 establishments preferred by the fair's applicants.

Oil, gas and petrochemical companies also ranked only after the government establishments in terms of attracting Qatari job-hunters, The Peninsula noted.
