Bahrain has pulled in hundreds of police to cope with traffic congestion ahead of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. A crowd of more than 40,000 people is expected to head to the island kingdom.
According ot the Gulf News Daily, more than 195 officers and senior officials will be deployed to control the vehicles on main roads leading to the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).
The oil exporter saw more than 100,000 vehicles arriving into the country via the King Fahad Causeway from Saudi Arabia during the F1 weekend.
Meanwhile, several roads near the BIC will be turned in to one-way routes for fans exiting the circuit after the race.
"This year, we are closing roads at 2.30pm to turn them into one-way to ease traffic," said General Directorate of Traffic director of Traffic Culture Major Moosa Isa Al Dossari.
"This way, fans coming out of the F1 can drive smoothly out of the area to their homes"
Police will be operating traffic lights near the BIC for visitors exiting the track, the daily said.
Al Dossari also urged F1 fans to avoid adrenalin-rushed speed races while heading home after the actual Grand Prix event.
