Consumption of water and electricity in Qatar has grown significantly since the beginning of this year, a senior official has revealed.

In the first two months of 2009, demand for electricity grew by an average of 15 percent compared to the same period last year while consumption of water rose by an average of 20 percent.

Eisa Hilal Al Kuwari, director of the electricity network of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) attributed the rise to a rapid expansion of the distribution network.
