Pakistan beat Australia to a seven-wicket victory in the one-off Twenty20 match of the Chapal Cup series at the Dubai Sports City’s new cricket stadium on Thursday.

Earlier before the match, HH Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The ruler unveiled a plaque announcing the official opening of the stadium and greeted the Pakistan and Australian cricket team members.

Leg-spinner Shahid Afridi produced a lethal three-wicket spell to unsettle the Australian middle order. On the other end, paceman Umar Gul ran through the Aussie innings by claiming four wickets.

Australia put up a score of 108 in 19.5 overs, with Shane Watson (33 runs) and Brad Haddin (24 runs) being the top scorers.

Gul returned with figures of four wickets for eight runs, Afridi bagged three wickets for 14 runs and Shoaib Malik scalped two wickets.

Replying to Australia’s modest total, Pakistan chased the109 runs in 16.2 overs at the cost of three wickets.

Kamran Akmal scored an unbeaten 59, while Pakistan’s T20 World Cup star Misbah Ul Haq scored 24.
