Sharjah Municipality has taken a step forward in ensuring that bachelors are not living in overcrowded accommodations and comply with housing rules, according to a newspaper report on the Zawya newswire..
Gulf News quotes Mohammad Salem Al Ka'abi, Manager of Security Section at Sharjah Municipality: "Bachelors are not allowed to live with women, and they should have at least three square metres of bed space in their apartment."
A new committee was formed two days ago comprising of representatives from the Security Section, Technical Department, and the Tenancy Department at Sharjah Municipality, the daily added.
The committee will prevent bachelors from living in residential and commercial areas since they are dedicated to families. The committee will be very stringent with violators of the rules.
Though bachelors are currently only authorised to live in industrial areas, they may be allowed within residential and commercial areas, provided there is no overcrowding, Gulf News said.

Sorry Khaled, as much as such ideas are vile to you and many others, they exist only because a 3rd world salary structure exists in most companies. You cannot expect to have 1st world standards/costs and pay 3rd world salaries (and have CEO's pocket the difference towards a new car every year). Either salaries increase, and workers are forced to take separate living quarters with higher salaries, or salaries remain as they are, and you get 3rd world living standards for many unprivileged people.

If you can't afford a reasonably decent living then please pack and leave but do not turn the UAE into a putrid fish market. One cannot fathom or comprehend how strangers and families stay together under one roof. The very ides seems so offensive and vile.

All these years the authorities even though they knew that each flat accomdated 8-10 persons (their term to be BACHELORS) and only now is that they woke up from their deep slumber when people are actually leaving and their flats are getting emptied with no more people to take them. So, its a good move by the officials to try getting their vacant flats filled again and by restricting the no. of persons, but for doing that they will also have to retain their residence visa's as well.................hahahahaha. Its a catch 22.
