Second earthquake in days hits Gulf of Oman

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred early in the morning on Sunday in the Gulf of Oman, accoridng to the UAE National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology.
The tremor which was "slightly felt" in parts of north eastern areas of the UAE, including Khourfakkan and Fujairah, struck at 5.07am, added the centre in a statement.
It added the earthquake was part of the normal seismic activity for the area.
The same area was hit on May 8 with a tremor measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale and was strongly felt in northern areas, news agency WAM reported.
Thousands of people were evacuated from high-rise towers across Dubai after an earthquake tremor hit the UAE on Sept. 10 last year.
The quake's epicentre, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, was in southern Iran about 316km from Abu Dhabi, but strong tremors were felt in the UAE.
