Speaking to a number of figureheads from the Middle East logistics industry over the past month, it seems the market has experienced its first signs of recovery from the global recession. It’s a glimmer of hope that we’re heading in the right direction once again and although there are still challenges ahead in this region, the general mood is certainly a little more bullish.
Providing a further boost to morale, the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Awards introduced a category for supply chain excellence this year, with DP World, FedEx and Al Islami Foods being selected as the lucky winners.
All three of these companies have featured prominently in Logistics Middle East over the years and this official recognition will undoubtedly be welcomed with open arms.
It also provides a pleasant taster to this month’s Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) – an evening that has a sole purpose to reward excellence in the Middle East logistics industry, with categories such as express logistics provider of the year, 3PL provider of the year and the recently-introduced FMCG supply chain of the year.
We have received a record number of entries for the awards this year, which will make the judging process a little harder for our prestigious panel, but with the market being challenged like never before, there’s no doubting the importance of this particular celebration. You still have time to submit an entry too – the deadline is Sunday 10th May and the process can be conducted online at www.arabiansupplychain.com/scata.
On a final note, congratulations to Dr Kanak Madrecha from DP World, who has served as a loyal member of the SCATA judging panel since the inaugural ceremony in 2007.
After three years of handing out trophies to others, the tables were turned last month when he was honoured at the Dubai Human Development Awards (DHDA) by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It’s heartening to know that local achievements are not going unrecognised and that’s exactly the example we’ll be following at the SCATAs – see you there!
