RUMOURS DENIED: Wataniya says there are no problems with their plans to fly to Cairo and Jeddah.

Wataniya Airways has dismissed speculation that its flights to Cairo were under threat after the airline reportedly failed to comply with regulatory requirements.

Recent newspaper articles suggested the Kuwaiti premium-class carrier had fallen short of Directorate General for Civil Aviation rules concerning services to Egypt. But the airline insisted such rumours were wide of the mark.

“Some news reports have suggested that Wataniya Airways’ current route rights to Cairo might be in jeopardy, in addition to future route rights that the company is seeking to Jeddah,” a company statement said.

“In that regard, the company would like to assure its shareholders and guests that it has complied with all regulatory requirements from Kuwait's Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) and all related authorities within our network to ensure our guests' right to continue to fly to these popular destinations.”

The airline added flights to Jeddah should be launched soon following months of paperwork.

“We are in close contact with the Saudi and Kuwaiti civil aviation authorities to make this new destination available for our guests,” Wataniya said.

“The airline's management is also negotiating with other aviation authorities to permit it to fly to additional popular destinations in the Middle East.”
