Intel Capital has selected two digital content companies from Jordan to invest in – Jeeran and ShooFeeTV. The initiative is part of the US $50 million Intel Capital Middle East and Turkey Fund, though the exact figure being invested was not disclosed.
His Excellency Eng. Basem Al-Rousan, Jordanian Minister of Information and Communications Technology said that Intel's investment is a testament to the capability and potential of the Jordanian ICT sector. H.E. also outlined the importance of the content industry as a main driver of internet penetration, especially as it relates to local and Arabic content.
Jeeran is a user-generated online community that provides Arab users with web technologies and the means to communicate and connect. According to a statement from Intel, Jeeran is the largest user-generated content site in the Arab world, with one million members and seven million unique visitors per month.
