Qatar’s brand for its bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup has been unveiled, with a promise to unite the Arab world though the world’s biggest sporting event, according to the head of the bid team.

The Gulf state is competing against 11 other countries to host the football event, which if successful will make the country the first in the Middle East to do so.

The event would be used to drive a better international understanding of the region, said Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, President of Qatar 2022, as he launched the brand, plus logo, to a 50,000 sell-out crowd at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha for the HH Emir Cup Final on Sunday.

Al Thani said:"The unwavering resolution of the Qatari people and the government to modernise, to advocate for peace, to build for the future is like the iron will of an athlete in pursuit of victory.”

"Qatar 2022 is a bid on behalf of the whole region. The first global sports event in the Middle East provides an opportunity for greater understanding and unity between the Arab and Western worlds and can inspire enthusiastic support from football fans young and old across the entire region," he added.

If awarded the bid Qatar plans to host the most state-of-the-art, financially robust and hospitable FIFA World Cup in history.

The Gulf state has the world's fastest-growing economy, highest per capita GDP, and experience as host of the 2006 Asian Games, as well as the up coming 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

....but aren't average temperatures in Qatar during June-July (World Cup season) 45 Celsius and above? Unless they expect to convince FIFA to break with tradition and play games indoors or rearrange domestic league calendars so the WC can be held in September-October....that would be a travesty.....
