New shopping centres in Dubai should have mosques and health clinics for the convenience of shoppers, according to a new order given by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The Prime Minister of the UAE made his comments while he was inspecting Aswaq shopping centre, the latest mall to open in the emirate.
The facilities will allow mall visitors to shop and perform their prayers, news agency WAM reported.
Sheikh Mohammed instructed the authorities concerned to conduct required studies for implementing the order as soon as possible.
The Aswaq shopping mall is the first in a series of malls, which will be constructed within the next five years in different districts and quarters of Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed has backed plans to set up a chain of 22 shopping centres throughout the emirate to reduce the burden of residents who had to travel far to visit malls.
He added that families could rent out outlets in the shopping malls to market their products through the Dakakeen (shops) project.

There is a need to have more mosques in New Dubai areas outside malls. There is one mall in The Greens which serves Greens / Views, Tecom and adjoining areas. On Friday the worshippers spill over to the road and walkways and in this heat it is impossible to stand outside. New mosques outside malls should be built all over New Dubai as soon as possible. Also, there is a need to have good large hospitals in New Dubai which are non-existent at the moment.

I agree Mr Salafi. People should study Islam before they comment on it. UAE government or Dubai for that matter should build mosques. I know they did. This is a private property and fund that the ruler is forcing to build a mosque. I think we should thank God that we have a leader like him. I'm sick and tired of these negativities about him and Dubai. I can’t wait to visit Dubai one day.

This is a positive direction and is highly commendable. Most large malls in Dubai have a prayer place already but there are other developments where mosques are badly needed. DIFC is a case in point. Also the Marina and JLT developments are seriously lacking in this facility.

The sad part is in a Muslim country you actually have to instruct people to open a mosque, shouldnt this be part of the design, by default
