Gulf Air has formed a taskforce to tackle the threat of swine flu following confirmation from Bahraini authorities that the disease has reached the country.
On Wednesday, health chiefs in Bahrain were searching for up to 10 airline passengers who could have been infected by the country’s first swine flu victim.
The victim, a 21-year-old Bahraini student, flew to the country from New York on Friday night.
When speaking with Arabian Business, Gulf Air said there had been no concerns that passengers or cabin crew flying with the Bahraini airline in recent weeks were carrying the disease.
A spokesperson added: “Gulf Air is closely monitoring the situation as it develops and has robust procedures in place if the situation deteriorates.
“A task force has been established that is monitoring developments as they happen and they are working closely with authorities and experts.”
Reports on Tuesday said the victim was being held at Salmaniya Medical Complex, where his condition is believed to be improving.
