UAE telecom giant Etisalat has launched an instant messaging service it claims will rival similar services by MSN, Yahoo! and Google.
Etisalat Messenger allows subscribers to exchange instant messages between Etisalat mobile phones, and between phones and personal computers.
It also allows multicast services between personal computers, the company said.
“Instant messaging is one of the most popular mediums that connect the youth today and with this value added service, Etisalat aims to target the young generation in the UAE,” said chief marketing officer Essa Al Haddad.
Etisalat Messenger comes in two packages: one providing unlimited use for a flat rate of AED25 ($6.8) per month, and another allowing users to send and receive an unlimited amount of messages for 15 minutes at a cost of AED2 per session.

wow, can it get any more stupid? i wonder who makes these new business ideas at etisalat? instead of doing something that actually communicates value and savings, they go the opposite way! "make sure our customers get poorer and pay for services that are free the world over"
as the world at large and even emerging economies race into or at least toward the future, at etisalat, we choose to run in the opposite direction!

Is this a JOKE? I mean, think abt it... if Etisalat is CHARGING customers for using their messenger, do U think people will change, from MSN, Yahoo, or Google? I don't think so, I wouldn't. Is it ALWAYS abt MONEY to Etisalat, ( I understand it's a BUSINESS)??!! If the TRA really wants to see good service for their money, they might as well OPEN up VOIP, then see what the competition does to get better service. It's an OPEN secret as to who is pulling whose buttons when it comes to VOIP, but in this day & age, Monopolies will end up losing revenue, & customers, in the long run. When du announced 'Per Second Billing' on all calls, Etisalat was QUICK to announce the same, and YET, it's not even started it. A lot of people have CHANGED to du, simply because of this, and also, the du network is MUCH better than when it started. Way to go. du the right thing..!!
