Gulf Arab states will sign an agreement for monetary union on June 7, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) secretary-general said in remarks published on Sunday in Saudi business paper Al-Eqtisadiah.
Abdul-Rahman al-Attiyah was speaking at a meeting of the GCC finance ministers in Muscat.
The UAE, the second-largest Arab economy, broke ranks with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain last month by withdrawing from the single currency plan in protest of a May 5 decision to base the joint central bank in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. (Reuters)
